Women Really Do Prefer Strong Men, Study Finds

Those hours you're spending tossing around weights in the gym, in that CrossFit box or at your home gym really are worth it, both for your longterm health and mental wellbeing (just one hour of exercise a week can prevent depression, according to a recent study). It also doesn't hurt that chicks dig pipes.
Researchers at California State University at Fullerton asked 160 women to look at pictures of shirtless guys (with blurred out heads) and rate them on their perceived strength and attractiveness on a scale of 1 to 7. Sixty of the guys were plucked from the university gym while 130 were enrolled in psychology classes.
According to the study, published in Proceedings of The Royal Society B, the women found strong men the most attractive (surprise, surprise). And it wasn't just iffy. A grand total of zero women preferred the weaker guys.
The researchers told The Washington Post that there are a few factors at play here. First, our culture, especially American culture, puts strong dudes on a pedestal. Second, there's some biological instinctual stuff wired into women's heads that tells them to find the guy that'll fight off encroaching bears, carry disease-resistant genes and lead the tribe.
Granted, we are talking about 20-something college girls here and the research is only in America, which is probably the most weightlifting-obsessed culture on the planet. The researchers are hoping to fix these structural problems to the study by expanding the research to twelve different sites around the globe.
Still, just because women find the guy with veins popping out of his neck attractive, or whatever, it doesn't mean they want to date him. Nor does it mean they can't fall in lovewith you if you can't bench two plates.
So don't work out because you want to attract women. Work out because it's good for you and it attracts women.
