TARGET (Life with a Purpose) | Written by: Oke Oladayo

We live in the world where souls wallow in naught,
And where destinies are easily being caught.
Many sail their voyages with no compass,
Leading them to a pasture with no grass.
A lot of them remained there thinking it was the arid season,
But none of them understood the prime reason.
My heart melted at seeing souls dying on the voyage of uncertainty,
Which increased the number of dreams sailing to the land of mortality.
The land of mortality where prospects die like the hungry shark,
Which inconsequentially made their minds become concealed in the dark.
From which gate would the light comes from and swallow the night?
How would these strayed souls find their ways back into the light?
Only if their tears could flow to the abode of the earthly sages,
Who would help them out of the void stages.
Thereby, making their lives have a newly written prose,
And helping them forever swim in the rivers of purpose.

AGE BEFORE BEAUTY I Written by: Olabintan Olabode

Age Before Beauty

Tears of wasted grace.
How bitter?
Agony of wasted grace.
How atrocious?

At infant,
Tutelage from all sources;
With no worries
About what nature has to offer.

At childhood,
A bit sense of liberty,
And it seems like an eagle
Kicking its' baby off the nest.

At puberty,
Vicissitude emanating from nature
And a right to freedom of choice
Choice which suits personality.

At adulthood,
Grown with wings like an eagle.
Then, our likings are our choices
And our choices are our likings.

And so, we fade into the aged.
When the mirror would smile and say,
Oh man!
My energy level has diminished!

Pleasure and satisfaction will only come,
If we could boast we're fulfilled.
Then we would smile,
I am a man of my dream.

We shouldn't let the sleeping dog lie.
To be successful is to break boundaries
And build castles of honour
To which generation unborn will be testifiers

Tears of wasted grace!
How bitter?
Agony of wasted grace.
How atrocious?

THE REDEFINED | Written by: John Beloved

Aided by ignorance
We were captivated
Our polite response to illiteracy
Succours our loot
To our masked redefiners.

So appealing was their arrival
Clothed in clean intentions
 And an unknown underneath
With deep grin and looming smile.

Theft lying quietly in them
With an open smile of bartering
We unknowingly swapped and gave
Our treasure for designed rags.

Captives of naivety
Cajoled by our greed
We gifted our future
In the freewill of ignorance.

The infection of myopia
Tomorrow clear view
Is seen in a blurry state
We interestingly watched the unamusing.

In our crude state
We traded crude goods
Experts of the unknown
To learners of the known.

HEARTBREAK | Written by: Fadeyi B.M.

Why did I care so incredibly?
Why did I rely so much?
My love for you was great,
But what you gave me
Was a broken heart.

A trillion would be the
Smallest pieces I broke into.
I lost the courage for
You abandoned me
Like I never existed;
Making me be like am ruined.

READ ABOUT THIS GREAT HEROINE, MOREMI AJASORO

Moremi Ajasoro, Princess of the Yoruba, was a figure of high significance in the history of the Yoruba peoples of West Africa. She was a member-by-marriage of the royal family of Emperor Oduduwa, the tribe's fabled founding father.

Biography

The Oloori Moremi lived in the 12th century, hailed from Offa, married to the then king of Ile Ife, a kingdom that is said to have been at war with an adjoining tribe who were known to them as the Forest people (Ìgbò in the Yoruba language, though the said tribe is believed by scholars to have had no relation to the contemporary Ìgbòs of modern Nigeria). Scores of Ife citizens were being enslaved by these people, and because of this they were generally regarded with disdain by the Yoruba city-states.

Moremi was a very brave and beautiful woman who, in order to deal with the problem facing her people, offered anything she had to give in sacrifice to the Spirit of the river Esimirin so that she could discover the strength of her nation's enemies.

She is said to have been taken as a slave by the Igbo and, due to her beauty, married their ruler as his anointed queen. After familiarising herself with the secrets of her new husband's army, she escaped to Ile-Ife and revealed this to the Yorubas who were able to subsequently defeat them in battle.

Following the war she returned to her first husband, King Oramiyan of Ife (and later Oyo), who immediately had her re-instated as his Princess Consort. In order to fulfil the pledge she made to Esimirin before embarking on her mission, her son Olurogbo was given in sacrifice to the Spirit because this is what it asked her for when she returned to its shrine.

The Edi Festival is said to have then been started as a means of celebrating the sacrifice the princess made for the people of Yorubaland. Furthermore, a number of public places are named after her in contemporary Nigeria, such as the female residence halls at the University of Lagos and Obafemi Awolowo University.

UNIABUJA STAFF SCHOOL TEACHER RELOCATES TO BUSH ON HUNGER STRIKE

A teacher with the University of Abuja Secondary School, Mr. Solo Anuli Obiagwu, was on hunger strike for five days over the plight of staff school teachers in the university. Obiagwu, who claimed he was being owed for 11 months by the university, said teachers in the staff school have been subjected to serious emotional trauma so he protested “victimisation of secondary school teachers at the University of Abuja Secondary School.” Mr. Obiagwu Also on the list of reasons are “impunity and insensitivity, emotional stabbing of teachers and students, silencing of unions and attempt by UniAbuja management to cripple me—11 months without salary.” The teacher, who sat in a bush within the duration of the exercise, refused to talk to anybody as he placed a board by his side, listing reasons for his action. According to him, the hunger strike, 6a.m. to 4p.m. daily, began on November 13 and ended November 17. Recall that the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, had dragged the Federal Government to the National Industrial Court, NIC, for directing Vice Chancellors of universities to delete names of teachers in staff schools from the payroll, contrary to the 2009 agreement government entered into with the union. However, in December last year, after a prolonged legal tussle, the Industrial Court gave judgement against the Federal Government and ordered that the teachers, who were disengaged by the Vice Chancellors, be reinstated.

MISAPPREHENSION OF LOVE | Written by: Oke Oladayo.

My unspoken words she hears,
My unexpressed feelings she knows,
My unseen visions she espies,
My untold dreams she believes.

When I was alone, she became my companion,
When I was despondent, she became my muse
When I was sick, she became my nurse,
When I was incarcerated, she became my saviour.

But I took her affections for granted,
I inconsequentially toyed with her emotions,
I made fun of her tenderheartedness,
Little did I know she was an angel sent by God.

I never knew the worth of her, until I lose her,
I never knew how precious she was until I watched her go,
Though she left some footprints in my heart,
I still yearn for her long gone presence.

Remembering her evocative memories made me feel completely empty,
This showed me the mystery behind love,
And an understanding of what it is to admire what you have,
So that one can acquire more than one's desire.

I've learnt a lot from my misapprehension,
Knowing that moment fades away,
But still, we can break a way to make a way,
So that our tomorrow can outshine our yesterday.

Please, make my life beautiful once again,
Let it be bright and colourful again,
Let it speak of your pervasive love again,
And take me back to your arms for us to reunite again.

24-year-old man arrested for impersonating billionaire businessman, Mike Adenuga.

The Ogun state police command has arrested 24-year-old Ehioboh Lucky pictured above for allegedly impersonating billionaire businessman, Mike Adenuga, to defraud unsuspecting members of the public. In a statement released by the command's public relations officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspect, an indigene of Edo state, opened a Facebook account with the name and picture of Mr. Adenuga to defraud innocent people. He was arrested after one of his victims identified as Abiola Ogunseye, went to the police to lodge a complaint after paying 'Mike Adenuga' N1 million to help him secure a job at NNPC.
”One of his victims, Abiola Olalekan Ogunseye came in contact with him on Facebook where he promised to get employment for him at Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC)”, Oyeyemi said
Lucky had told Abiola that if he paid him N1 million, he would use his office to influence his employment.
”The sum of N1,028,770 has so far been paid to suspect before the victim realised that he is a fraudster,” Mr. Oyeyemi added.
After waiting endlessly for his appointment letter, Abiola suspected he had been duped and he went to the Commissioner of Police and Officer in charge of Anti Kidnapping and Cultism, Opeyemi Kujoore, to lodge a complaint. After a detailed investigation, Lucky was arrested by the police on November 6th. He would be charged to court soon.

KADUNA TEACHERS; RIGHT ANSWER, WRONG METHOD?

We all know that something urgent needs to be done about our abysmal educational sector. If we continue to do nothing, then the decay in Nigeria which is traceable to poor-quality government schools and a dysfunctional educational system will continue unabated. Educational authorities tend to focus their attention on rectifying the decline of Secondary and Tertiary institutions where examination malpractice, cult activities and immoral behaviour are increasingly common.
The bulk of Nigerian school leavers are academically handicapped because long before they ever proceeded to secondary school, they were set in their semi-literate ways by poor primary education. Nigerian universities are resigned to producing half-baked graduates because higher education isn’t a miraculous activity which restores deformed intellect! Indisputably Nigeria needs complete re-vamping of its education system to include better infrastructure, updated syllabus, modern teaching aids, more teachers, and better teachers.

This mantra has been repeated ad nauseam by every incoming government, but little or nothing has ever been done. In a commendable initiative to assess the quality of its primary school teachers, the Kaduna State Government arranged a proficiency and basic skills test. The results were staggering.  Out of 33,000 teachers tested, the vast majority (approximately 66%) failed! The consequent decision to sack the failures and recruit 25,000 replacements, led to a predictable breakdown of law and order.
Kaduna State was virtually shut down as teachers walked off the job demanding a reversal of the decision. The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) together with thousands of civil servants marched to the State House of Assembly to register their protest. Not mincing his words, the NLC President described the competency test as “unacceptable” and “lacking credibility” firstly because the legitimate institutions mandated to organise such assessments were side-lined, and secondly because some of those declared successful were either retired teachers, security guards or even dead! The bruhaha and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) two-week ultimatum to the governor to reverse the planned sack, highlights the problems involved in trying to reform a public employment system entrenched in the defence of mediocrity, and a belief that performance monitoring concepts don’t apply to their work.
In every instance where government teacher competency tests have been introduced in Nigeria, the outcome has been the shelving of reform in the face of agitation and outright rejection of such assessments by the NUT. The end result is that Nigeria has amongst the lowest rates of literacy in the world. The All Progressives Congress (APC) won the last presidential election because Nigerians bought in to the concept of a “Change Agenda”. Everyone agreed that the nation needed change, but the problem, which becomes more apparent every day, is that neither the changes that would take place, nor the manner in which they would be carried out, was clearly defined.
The most imperative change required in Nigeria is the reformation of bureaucracies and building of merit-based public organisations. This usually commences with the administration of competency and proficiency tests to ascertain the quality of the workforce and replace those who don’t meet standards. Invariably in Nigeria such well-intentioned reforms are always aborted in the face of popular protest and union activities. The NLC and NUT cannot be blamed for acting to ameliorate the adverse effects of the policy upon the livelihood of large numbers of their members. Even though the State Government is absolutely correct in asserting that unqualified primary school teachers have no right to inflict ignorance upon pupils and deform them educationally for life, their decision to inflict uncertainty and increased suffering upon thousands at this time deserves reproach.
Political leadership involves considering the socio-economic consequences of decisions. Mass retrenchment at this moment in time will neither help the State, nor improve the educational system. A fresh approach and revision of strategy is required if educational reform is to succeed. Most reforms in Nigeria fail because Governors are wrongly convinced that their merits are self-evident and don’t require popular support. Their erroneous imperious mindset must be dispensed with immediately. State Governors aren’t elected as Emperors not to be questioned. They must engage themselves in coalition-building and forging consensus. Change and reforms must include palliatives to cushion collateral damage. It’s been suggested that the ongoing mess could easily have been averted by adopting a slower, more systematic piecemeal approach.
Easing unqualified or incompetent teachers out over a period of time would have avoided the confrontation with large trade unions caused by state-wide mass sacking. Others believe that an even better approach would have been to enlist teachers in a drive to re-train themselves and help create better schools. So many previous well-intentioned attempts at reforming bureaucracy in Nigeria have failed simply because their top-down approach doesn’t allow for input from those to be affected. To reverse this trend Governors must adopt a more democratic bottom-up approach centring change on those burdened with implementing and policing the reforms.
The Kaduna State Government would be well advised to stay their hand and engage teachers and the general public in a thorough examination of the issues involved, and the change process itself.  Any belief that large numbers of qualified teachers are waiting to be employed in Kaduna State is fallacious. Teaching in government primary schools in Nigeria isn’t a profession which endears itself to anyone. Low prestige of teachers, irregular or delayed salaries, lack of career advancement opportunities, and the dilapidated working environment, has over the years led to mass movement away from the government primary school teaching profession. As for State Governor el-Rufai he would do well to temper his passion for ill-considered reforms by reflecting upon the “success” of his school feeding and other programs. He has yet to convince anyone that his primary school reforms will not be just another example of a fad for implementing well-intentioned solutions using wrong methodology.

BEAUTIFUL BEYOND BEAUTY. Written by Oke Oladayo

Far beyond the meridian,
I saw a dazzling maiden,
Her teeth white as snow,
All seated well on their row.
Isn't it too early to let you know,
That in my heart your statue grows,
And like the air, it blows
Slowly back to my heart as the ocean flows.
Whenever my eyes catch the glimpse of you,
My heart skips a beat,
And my mouth remain on its seat.
Howbeit my thought stood still on it's feet,
As it wallows in the world of fascination,
But speech failed me to emit to you words of admiration.
Now that you've walked away,
I hope to see you someway,
And whisper in your ears;
"You're beautiful beyond beauty"

VICTOR UWAIFO ACCUSES SIMI, JAYWON OF PIRACY.

Victor Uwaifo- Simi and Jaywon
Ace Nigerian singer, Prof. Victor Uwaifo, has accused music stars, Jaywon and Simi of remixing his hit song ‘Joromi’ without obtaining permission from him.

According to the singer who was one-time Edo State Commissioner for Arts and Culture, he won’t be suing but encouraged new generation singers to give credit for their work.

Here’s what he said in his exclusive chat with Vanguard Showtime:

“They didn’t contact me before doing a remix of Joromi; but I’m like a father to them so I can’t begin to drag them to court, so let them make a living out of it, but at the same time it’s piracy.

I’ve heard it too many times on different occasions; it shows the quality of the music that has come a long way. As far as I’m concerned I’ve lived five lives (from one generation to the other), so if they want to appreciate and still appreciate me, it shows the quality of the music.

It’s one thing to be an artiste and it’s another thing to stay on the scene for a long time; so I will not discourage artistes trying to remix or do another rendition of Joromi, but rather encourage them to give credit to the composer if they do”.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris, has stated that there is no law stopping him from marrying a serving female police officer.

The lawmaker representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, Senator Isa Misau, had accused him of having an affair with a junior female colleague.

The IGP challenged Misau in a written defence he presented through his lawyer, Alex Iziyon, SAN, to the Senate ad-hoc committee looking into the allegations against him to prove him wrong.

A copy of the written defence, in which the allegations against Idris were listed in six categories and responded to was obtained by Punch.

The IG challenged the senator to cite a section of the law that prevents him from having romantic relationship with a policewoman.

According to the IGP, Misau’s father married the lawmaker’s mother while in service.

Responding to the allegation that Idris was having affairs with two female officers who also got questionable promotions as a result, Iziyon said, “This allegation is laughable and showed lack of understanding of the provisions of the Police Act and regulation.

“Until he brings such section of the Police Act, it will amount to discussing the Inspector-General of Police’s private life, which ordinarily should not have been entertained on the floor of the Senate.

“It might be appropriate to remind the senator, whose mother retired from the police as an Inspector of Police and a father who retired from the police as an Assistant Inspector-General of Police, that the Inspector -General of Police is a Moslem and, according to Islamic Law, can marry four wives provided he can love them equally.

“The senator also alleged that the Inspector-General of Police is in a relationship with one Corporal Amina whom he claimed was promoted from the rank of Corporal to an Assistant Superintendent of Police within 12 months.

“This allegation is false and the senator is under obligation to give the full particulars of the female police (officer), where she is serving and her duty post. It is not possible to promote a corporal to the rankof an ASP except the officer has attended an in-service cadet course.”

The IG appeared before the Senate panel on Wednesday.

This celebrity duo has given us some great music tracks and several beautiful music videos. They have been a source of many rumors when it comes to their relationship. However, they will not be able to disprove these rumors after these photos! Check out the pictures of Simi and Adekunle Gold that serve as proof that these two are dating.

WHO IS ADEKUNLE GOLD?

Adekunle Kosoko, popularky known as Adekunle Gold, is a well-known Nigerian singer and songwriter, who occasionally dabbles in graphic design. He was born on January 28, 1987 in Lagos. He is currently 30 years old, and his zodiac sign is Aquarius.

FOUR FACTS ABOUT ADEKUNLE GOLD

★ Adekunle is very good at Photoshop. His edits look almost like real photos! He got everyone fooled by one of his edits with Tiwa Savage.

★ His fame came after he posted a cover of a popular song called ‘Story of My Life’ (by One Direction). The video of his hit song, 'Sade', got 1,680,200 views (and counting) on his official YouTube channel.

★ After dropping out of YBNL Nation, Adekunle recently announced that he has a band called ‘The 79th element’. The name is an homage to his pseudonym, as gold is 79th in the periodic table.

WHO IS SIMI?

Simisola Bolatito Ogunleye, more popularly known as Simi, is a famous Nigerian singer, songwriter and sound engineer. She was born on April 19, 1988 in Lagos. She is currently 29 years old, and her zodiac sign is Aries. She has three older siblings. Her parents separated when she was nine.

ARE ADEKUNLE GOLD AND SIMI DATING?

Adekunle Gold and Simi have teased us multiple times with their pictures together in various settings. Even their zodiac signs are very compatible. The stars know what they are talking about :) However, both artists have been reluctant to admit there is something going on between them. But there are just too many proofs that they are together.

Their lovey-dovey photos from an ocean resort aside, both have inadvertently confirmed their relationship status. Adekunle has devoted the song called Orente to Simi. He has also often said in his interviews, how much she meant to him, and that he could not imagine his life without her.

On her side, Simi never said outright that she and Adekunle were a thing. Nevertheless, she let it slip that she was in a relationship. Ooh, we wonder who that might be! :)

To further prove the fact that Simi and Adekunle Gold are together, a source close to both of the artists shared some juicy information. They stated that Simi’s family knows Adekunle well (and vice versa), and that the two are actually planning to tie the knot! We really hope this is true.

Many friends are afraid that Simi might break Adekunle’s heart. In recent years, Simi has grown even more beautiful and appealing and other men apart from Adekunle have already noticed. Many think that she might be involved with Falz, another famous Nigerian music artist. Whether it is true or not, we do not know.

However, these two often post pictures of each other, or photos showing how close they are. They even have a joint EP called Chemistry, where both of them were shown to be half-naked.

Regardless of whether or not Simi and Adekunle Gold are actually dating, we hope that they will not stop making great music any time soon. They make a perfect work duo, and if romance is also involved, it is even better. Love can be a great source of inspiration. Hopefully, one day we will hear the official announcement that Simi and Adekunle Gold are together. Until then, let’s enjoy their pictures and their songs.

BACK IN A WHILE

My flowing tears is large enough to sink a ship.
`Cos watching you leave led me to an unknown world like a stray sheep.
I hope your voice would lead me through the night,
And you would be back in a while like a sparkling light.

QUOTE (Shadow)

I saw your shadow walking behind mine,
It scared me
`cos the darkened image became two.
Why not walk towards the light?
Maybe you could be the prime
And perhaps we could become one.

DREAMS OVER LOVE

I know your mind is often filled with thoughts of me,
Obviously, you get lost in thought when you sight me,
It is I you see in your dreams,
Even if or not you want to scream.

Waking up to see the reality,
But scared to share the actuality.
Maybe you're overwhelmed by emotion itself,
Which made this known to your friends themselves.

Frequently you tried keeping in the emotions,
But lucidly it keeps appearing in your expression.
Often you have tried avoiding me from knowing what your endearment contains,
But in your countenance, it shows.

Only a bloke with no blood running in his veins
would render all your affections as vain.
Even if he were unloving and heartless,
He would still acknowledge your feelings, desperate and heartfelt.

However I am like a keyboardist,
Who appreciates the white and black colour of the keys on the keyboard.
I equally liken myself to the eagle in the sky,
Who understands the presence of wings for skydive.

Howbeit like the featherless bird,
I fell from the horizon,
But unconsciously, I landed on the bed,
And helplessly, I fell into your love zone.

Oh! What a river of love,
Which never ceases to flow.
There I found myself,
Swimming in the waters of love.

Could my dreams be achieved in ecstasy,
when I still vie with the war of love?
Should I continue to dine in the sweetness of love saying it's tasty?
When I want the proverbial sky to be my starting point and not a lure?

Now we've come to the end of the war,
I  have overcome the power of intense pleasure.
Intense pleasure that burst forth at the wrong time,
Which almost lured me onto the wrong path.

With all courage, I walked away leaving the pleasures behind.
This made her feel empty as she continued to mourn,
But I am left with no choice than to depart,
Making her bid me goodbye in tears.

ASAKE

Come with me, let me show you a story,

A story of a young lady with a glory,
She lives at the outskirts of the village,
And helps her blind mother to deliver messages.

Asake transcends all levels of comeliness,
This preventing her from the world of loneliness,
As young and old men desire,
All wanted her to be theirs as they require.

She became the pride of her mother,
Even as her father was murdered.
She took away her mother's tears,
Mitigating her of the future fears.

However, she opened her heart's gate,
Thereby prompting the thief to appear,
Though it seems he entered late,
Yet he didn't make his steps so clear.

The man called thief, exploited the village's jewel,
He took away her valour at the season of Noel,
Her pride became shattered.,
Her glory faded away before she noticed.

Alas, Asake has brought shame to her mother,
Thereby bringing back evocative memories of the death of her father,
Condemning the blind woman to eternal pain,
She prayed that one day her pain would be washed away be the heavenly rain.

Asake allowed the wicked word to rewrite her future,
Out of negligence she traded her eternal joy with few minutes of pleasure.
Now she regretted all her actions,
Hoping she could still achieve all her ambitions.

Just as the oceans flows without obstruction,
She continued her life in expectance of copious promotions,
Doing her works with all passion;
Brought an atom of hope without questions.

Favour found its way to her world,
And it came in with a lightened word,
"Would you marry me"? Came out of the lips of the next crowned king,
On his kneel he asked if she would be his queen.

Through the tube of happiness the news got to her blind mother,
Amazingly, the winds of joy opened the blind eyes.
Once again she experienced the atmosphere of merriment,
And her name changed from the usual "blind mother" to the "queen`s mother".

¤Asake is a female
name in the south- western part of Nigeria.
